Ben Stevens
A revivalist of traditional Blues, Ben Stevens summons the spirit of “Crossroads Blues,” soulfully making each song his own. Ben lists musical influences ranging from first generation Blues players such as Son House, Skip James and Mississippi John Hurt, to current day artists such as Peter Tosh and Joni Mitchell. Brought up by some of history’s finest Blues pickers, Ben studied and played with the likes of John Jackson, Charles Sawtelle, Homesick James, Robert Jr. Lockwood, and John Hammond. He has shared the stage with such greats as Jorma Kaukonen, Jaco Pastorious, Ruthie Foster, and Papa John Creach. In addition to his solo work, Ben has recorded, along with Washboard Chaz, two albums in the band Bleecker St. Ben has spent much of his life traveling and immersing himself in musical cultures spanning the globe. His music is inspired by island and American culture and history, and is reminiscent of the many landscapes and personal journeys that have shaped his life.
“Ben Stevens writes his own tunes and he’s got his own ideas, but what makes him so interesting is the fact that he’s taken so naturally to the older styles.”
